I received my diploma in biology in 2001 from the Heinrich-Heine-University in Duesseldorf and the Dr. rer. nat. (Ph.D.) degree in 2006 from the University of Hohenheim in Germany. The practical part of my Ph.D. thesis had been realized at the clinic for gastroenterology, hepatology and infectiology at the university hospital in Duesseldorf.
